Someone says it does some say it doesn’t. So it has no defined answer. It’s a controversial statement.
According to the study published in the journal of a clinical endocrinologist and metabolism in 2004 says “that the impact of stress and physical workout effect the factors include growth intensity life span etc”. Gymnasts spend most of their time in training.
They spend 26 and 28 hours usually which have a great effect on their muscles. Their musculoskeletal growth sound and suppresses the bones. Their are so many sports that affect our growth like this.
Another argument made that gymnastics training during puberty with delayed growth the reason is that young people are at high risk of injuries and risk of suppressing growth bones and growth plates.
On the other hand, people say who participate in gymnastics will not experience a decrease in height. It’s no more than a myth. We all have noticed that gymnastics athletes are so small and that’s the nature of sports. If we talk about basketball then we always noticed tall athletes to play because being small would be unfair for the game.
Another possible reason could be a diet that keeps them small in height and appearance. This probably is because most of the athlete don’t realize they need to adjust their eating habits because of continuous hard work and they may have lack of calcium, calories vitamin D which is necessary for bone growth.
Gymnastics does not attenuate the growth of upper and lower body segments. Female gymnastics is usually shorter than women. The average height is 5-feet and 1-inch and if they grow they normally grow only 3 inches more.
- OLYMPIC SIMONE BILES: She is 4feet 8inch.
- OLYMPIC final five of Biles: Aly is 5 feet 2 inches.
- Laurie is 5-feet even.
So it’s a nature that gymnastics are highly selected and tend to be shorter.
Business Insider:
Reports that it’s not simply a matter of shorter women gravitating towards the sport, nor is it exclusively about the rigorous training of gymnastics “stunting your growth
However, the tallest female rhythmic gymnast to win a medal at the Olympic games is Kateryna Serebrianska who is 178 cm (5′10″).
Guidelines:
- It’s important to take a scheduled diet and supplements.
- Take rest during training and try not to use the moves in daily life.
